Shapes

This fortnight in Auslan, students have been learning signs for shapes, learning signs for small, big, and how to indicate size in Auslan. Other signs we learnt included shape, square, rectangle, cube, triangle, square-based pyramid (plus other base shapes), circle, sphere, cylinder and pentagon. 

Students enjoyed a silent outdoor activity this week, wherein pairs would take turns photographing or videoing one another signing the shapes in front of them. Below is an image of a student signing red circle whilst hanging from one! 

Students enjoyed being outdoors, exploring the yard to find shapes in unexpected places, accurately depicting the difference between 2D and 3D shapes, and interpreting complex language from the shape hunt sheet (for example triangular prism). 

Below is the rubric on how students will be assessed this term when presenting their videos/photos to the class. The year 5/6s were particularly focused on getting marked well and reflecting on the rubric when signing outside.
