Level Five

Grade 5 has had a busy and successful end to Term 1! Students completed NAPLAN with great focus and enthusiasm (despite a minor state wide technical issue). To celebrate all of their hard work, we enjoyed a fantastic excursion to Ruffey Lake Park. It was a great opportunity to relax, play and connect as a cohort. The grade 5 students have also continued to demonstrate excellent commitment to our classroom routines and expectations throughout Term 1. Fantastic work, Grade 5!

Writing:

In Writing, we have moved into exploring Cut Out and Black Out poetry. Students have loved the opportunity to be creative and rewrite new meanings within existing texts. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow, and many students have now published their pieces. We are incredibly proud of the effort and creativity shown across all the classes.

Here are some samples of our work from this term:

Reading:

We have continued reading Boy Overboard and building on our skills of predicting and visualising. Students have become more confident in justifying their predictions using evidence from the text and adapting their thinking as the story unfolds.

We have also applied our visualising skills to analyse examples of Cut Out and Black Out poetry, helping us better understand how imagery and word choice create meaning. This has been a great way to connect our Reading and Writing learning.

Maths:

Over the past few weeks, students have been developing their understanding of multiplication and division. We have explored a range of multiplication strategies, including the grid method and vertical multiplication .

In division, students have been learning short division and how to represent remainders as decimals and fractions. It has been amazing to see students' confidence as they solve complex problems.
