Harmony Day 

Our Prep students had a wonderful time celebrating Harmony Day and Cultural Diversity! It was fantastic to see students proudly dressed in traditional outfits, colours from their cultural backgrounds, or wearing orange to recognise Harmony Day. They shared what makes them unique and discussed ways we can show kindness, inclusion, and respect at DPS.

Writing 

In Writing this term, our Prep students have been busy learning how to write simple sentences and growing their confidence as young writers. Students have also enjoyed writing recounts about exciting events we have had at school. They have been exploring rhyming words and having fun with memory games to practice spotting them. It has been so lovely to see their excitement and creativity shine through in their work!

Reading 

This term in Reading, the Preps have been learning about how books work, including how to hold a book, where to start reading, and how to follow the words across the page. We have also been practising sequencing by putting stories in order and retelling what happens at the beginning, middle, and end.

Maths 

Our Prep students have been busy building strong foundations in Mathematics. Over the past few weeks, they have been focusing on numbers to 10 and developing efficient counting strategies to support their understanding. Students have been learning to use their “superhero subitising powers”, recognising numbers quickly by seeing them rather than counting one by one. They have been exploring familiar patterns using dice, five frames and ten frames to help strengthen this skill. We have also been working on comparing numbers, helping students to identify which collections are more, less, or the same. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they begin to recognise numbers in a variety of ways!

Phonics 

This term in phonics, the Preps have been learning the sounds m, d, g, o, c, f, k, e, r, and u. We’ve been practising saying the sounds, recognising them in words, and beginning to blend them together to read and write CVC words.
