Captains Corner

My first term as a School Captain has been an amazing experience as I got to speak at virtual and in person assemblies proudly. When I had my first assembly, I was nervous I thought my voice would wobble and freeze. My first line I hoped for the best. Soon the words started flowing, I got the hang of it. Slowly my confidence grew. All the bad thoughts flew out of my mind like a breeze. Now, I speak confidently and proudly at assemblies’. My highlight from term one would definitely be the School Captain Leadership Conference. We listened to motivational speakers share their story and why they are here today. I really enjoyed hearing all their messages to keep taking small steps forward and trying your best. I can't wait to see what Term 2 brings!

Term 1 in 2026 as a school captain has been a memorable experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. In my first assembly my hands were shaking and my voice was cracking. I felt like I failed the mission of the school captain role. But, as I went along, as more assemblies commenced, I improved my confidence. Overall, the term has been great for me and the rest of the school captains. One of the most important days was the National Young Leaders Day where we went to the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition centre in the city. Inside were four speakers and three thousand seats. My favourite speaker was Nick Hudson the founder of The Push-Up Challenge who had an amazing speech in front of the leaders. My lesson from that day was that when things get challenging, they can always resolve. Another highlight was when we got to the grand final in Interschool Sport Tennis, but unfortunately, we lost to Doncaster Gardens Primary School. Term one was great but Term two might be even better with upcoming events and important days.

Term 1 was an exciting term with lots of events. I enjoyed leading assemblies, including the two in-person assemblies. At first I was very nervous, but then I became more confident, and it wasn’t so scary. Even though I am still a bit nervous when speaking in front of many people, I feel that my confidence has significantly improved. My favourite moment all term was going to the National Young Leaders Conference, on Friday 27th of March. There were 4 amazing guest speakers, and they all talked about resilience and never giving up. My favourite speaker was Nick Hudson, who founded the Push -Up Challenge, which is one of the most popular fitness tracker apps in the world. My favourite fact about him is that he had an open-heart surgery, and the doctors replace one of his faulty heart valves with a cow valve! This term was very exciting, and I can’t want to see what happens in Term 2.

My first term has been an amazing and memorable time! As a school captain I have had many things to get involved because of my role, so far these have going on assembly (virtual and in person), meetings and excursions. My first time having the chance to talk at assembly was an extremely strange feeling. I was excited to lead the school but the idea of knowing my friends and teachers were all counting on me made me feel nervous and overwhelmed. Thoughts raced to my head, but at that moment our principal told us something I’ll never forget “the audience never know what you’re saying next, if you make a mistake, they wont notice as long as you stay calm.” And that has stuck with me ever since and boosted my confidence. Another amazing experience as a school captain was the day we went to the Young National Leaders Day. We had four people come and tell us about their life story. My personal favourite was Catherine Langa’aia who is staring in the live action Moana movie. I really connected with her message that it’s important to treat everyone with respect and always stay humble. Overall having the chance of being school captain has changed my life and taught me about all types of lessons which I will never forget!
