Level Four

It has been a busy and productive Term 1 for our Level 4 students, with lots of exciting learning happening across all areas of the curriculum.
READER'S WORKSHOP
In Reading, students have been participating in Reader’s Workshop, where they have been developing important comprehension strategies. This term, there has been a strong focus on predicting and summarising across a variety of texts. Students have been learning how to use clues from the text, along with their prior knowledge, to make thoughtful predictions, and then identify key ideas to summarise what they have read.
MATHEMATICS
In Mathematics, students have been building their understanding of multiplication and division. They have been exploring different strategies to solve problems and are developing confidence in applying these skills in real-world contexts. Alongside this, students have been learning about 2D shapes, identifying their features and understanding how they are used in everyday life.
WRITING
In Writing, students have continued their work on Narrative Writing. They have been focusing on improving their storytelling by adding detail, structure, and creativity to their pieces. A key part of this term has also been editing and revising their work. Students are learning how to reflect on their writing, make improvements, and prepare their pieces for publishing. They are especially enjoying the opportunity to publish their final work using computers. Students also used our novel ‘Billy Bobbarooni’ to create comics using the skills of summarising and their knowledge of narrative structure to draw and write comics.
THEME
In Theme, students explored a rich and meaningful unit focused on culture, where they created projects celebrating their own backgrounds. Students conducted research and, in many cases, had thoughtful discussions with their families to learn more about their heritage. They presented their learning in a variety of creative ways, including posters, PowerPoints, and culture boxes. It was wonderful to see students take pride in their identities and share their cultures with the class.
Overall, it has been a fantastic term filled with growth, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning. We are very proud of the effort all Level 4 students have shown.
