The Laurence Library

Mr Alex Hanssen

A space that feels like home

As we reach the end of 2025, it is hard not to reflect on what a whirlwind and a joy this year has been. In my first year as Head of Library, I have felt incredibly fortunate to work alongside my wonderful colleagues, Ms Belyea and Mrs Sykiotis. Their expertise and support have made this space feel like home, but even more important is their genuine love and care for everything we do here. That passion shines through in the smiles we see from all of you as you walk through our doors each day. The Laurence Library is a lovely place to be.

Together, we have seen the Laurence Library evolve into a warm, welcoming hub. It has been made even more special by the creativity of our students, whose designs now brighten our walls and give the space a true sense of belonging and a student voice.

Looking ahead, there is plenty to be excited about. Next year, we will host our second Interhouse Readers’ Royale, and I cannot wait to see everyone’s amazing Book Week costumes once again. For our incoming Year 7s, there is also a surprise LEGO set waiting to be revealed that is sure to turn heads once it is built!

Until then, I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday. Hopefully, you have borrowed a book or two for the break. There is nothing quite like a good story to enjoy during those quiet moments on the beach or curled up on the couch.
