Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber 

– Major Projects 

With only one week remaining until the submission deadline, it is essential that all Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber students are working consistently on both their Major Project and accompanying Folio. Both components are due on the same day, and students must ensure they have allocated sufficient time to complete each to the highest possible standard. 

Students are strongly encouraged to make the most of every available opportunity to work on their projects and folios. The timber workshop will continue to be open during recess and lunch breaks and will be open all day on the submission date to allow students every opportunity to complete their work. All Year 12 Industrial Technology Timber students are expected to attend on this day to finalise and submit both their Major Project and accompanying Folio. 

With the deadline fast approaching, every lesson and every opportunity to work counts. Consistent effort over the coming week will be critical to ensuring both the Major Project and Folio are completed and submitted on time. 

Shoes 

All students are required to wear fully covered black leather shoes to participate in the kitchens and workshops for Work Health and Safety requirements. Students in incorrect footwear are unable to participate and will be set alternate theory work in another supervised class. 

Showcasing the work of Year 10 

Industrial Technology Timber 

This term, our Year 10 Industrial Technology Timber students have been making excellent progress on their side table projects, with a particular focus on constructing their drawers and tabletops. Students are using finger joints to build strong and accurate drawer frames before applying decorative edge profiles to their drawer fronts using the hand router. Throughout these practical tasks, students have learned and demonstrated the safe and appropriate operation of both machines, further developing their confidence and workshop skills.  

Students have also begun preparing the timber for their tabletops by creating widening joints to join multiple boards into a single panel. This stage of the project follows the tabletop designs they developed as part of their assessment task last term, allowing them to transform their ideas into a functional product. It has been fantastic to see the care, precision and craftsmanship students are applying as their projects continue to take shape, and we look forward to showcasing the side tables once completed. 

Food Technology 

This term, our Year 10 Food Technology students have begun an exciting new unit on Food Service and Catering. They kicked off their practical lessons by making lemon myrtle cheesecakes, incorporating a native ingredient that gave them the chance to explore a unique and distinctive flavour. This activity also aligned beautifully with our NAIDOC Week celebrations, helping students connect with Indigenous culture through food. 

In addition to cooking, students have been developing valuable café skills to prepare and operate a class café for staff. They are learning how to prepare and serve menu items, alongside making coffee and hot chocolate for paying customers. This hands-on experience equips them with real-world skills that are transferable to future employment opportunities. 

We are fortunate to have several talented baristas among our students who already work in the Hospitality industry. These students are providing mentorship to peers with less experience, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. 

Child Studies  

This term Year 10 Child Studies have explored the diverse needs of children and discovered how families, communities and support services can work together to promote positive health outcomes. Through engaging learning experiences, students have investigated a range of enrichment activities that encourage children’s learning, creativity and development. Students have explored different educational settings and how they can cater for the individual needs of children. This unit has provided students with a deeper understanding of how thoughtful support, resources and experiences can help children thrive. 

As part of their Multimedia Presentation assessment task, students researched a specific disability enabling them to gain and demonstrate their understanding of how this disability impacts children and their families and how we can best support them. This assessment task also developed their research, communication and digital presentation skills.
