Stage 4
HSIE (Ferreri/Heneghan)
This term Stage 4 will transition to geography studies, starting with Landscapes and Landforms. We will be looking at the importance of diverse landscapes, how natural processes shape the Earth and the ways people interact with environments. Students will use geography skills to read maps and investigate real life places and events both within Australia and internationally.
English (Ali)
This term, Stage 4 English will be exploring the unit A Picture Tells a Thousand Words. Students will develop their understanding of how images communicate ideas, emotions and meaning through techniques such as salience, colour, vectors, framing, positioning and body language.
Students will learn to identify these techniques and explain how they influence an audience's interpretation of a visual text. They will apply these skills to a range of visual texts, developing their ability to use evidence and analysis to explain how images communicate messages, characters and themes. This will strengthen students' visual literacy and provide valuable skills for interpreting the many visual texts they encounter in everyday life.
Cross Curricular (Lucy)
In Cross Curricular, students have been developing their skills across a range of subject areas including English, Mathematics, CAPA, Science and PDHPE. Students have been provided with a choice board of engaging activities, allowing them to select tasks that match their interests while practising a variety of skills.
Students have particularly enjoyed getting creative and putting their own ideas into their work. Some favourite activities have included:
designing their own NRL or NBA sports team, where students have chosen specific athletes to build their ideal teams
making matching memory card games using Science terms they have learnt; and creating storyboards based on movies they enjoy.
giving a movie trailer a creative makeover by selecting and adding their own music and sound effects.
The choice board has provided students with opportunities to work independently, explore their interests and demonstrate their learning in creative and practical ways.
Stage 5
HSIE (Ali)
This term, Stage 5 Geography will be exploring Sustainable Biomes, investigating the characteristics of the world’s major biomes and how climate, soil, water and other factors influence where they occur and what they can produce. Students will examine how people use and alter these environments for food production and explore issues such as deforestation, biodiversity loss, desertification and climate change.
Students will also investigate food production, food security and sustainability, considering challenges such as population growth, water scarcity, food waste and competing land uses. Through mapping, data analysis, research and real-world case studies, students will develop their geographical skills while considering how sustainable strategies and new technologies can help support the world's future food needs.
English (Ferreri/Heneghan)
This term Stage 5 will be exploring Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. We will be looking at the key characters, relationships and events within the play, while analysing the different features and structure of a script. Students will explore the distinct differences between scripts and novels and develop their understanding of how dialogue, stage directions and character interactions are used to tell a story.
Stage 6
Numeracy (Mare)
This term students are learning about Operations with Fractions and Decimals. We will be looking at solving everyday problems with fractions and decimals and determine whether an estimation or accurate answer is needed in everyday context.
We will also be looking at Lenth Mass and Capacity and discuss how they are used in everyday life.
SLR (Middleton)
Last term in SLR, students wrapped up the "Games and Sports Application I" topic with loads of fun and learning. They tried out sports like European handball, ultimate frisbee, Gaelic football, and frisbee golf. After getting a feel for each sport, students put their skills to the test by creating their own coaching sessions including warm-ups, skills and drills, mini games, and cool-downs. It was a great chance for everyone to get involved, build confidence, and learn how to lead others in sport.
Work Studies (Heath)
Year 11 students have been focused this term on the topic of managing work and life commitments, preparing them with valuable skills for balancing responsibilities now and in the future. Classroom learning has included practical strategies for time management, prioritisation, setting realistic goals, and maintaining a healthy balance between study, work, and personal life. Students have explored techniques for managing stress and developing habits that promote wellbeing.
In addition to classroom learning, students are engaging weekly in a work skills program with Scope. This hands-on program supports development of communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and workplace etiquette, helping students build confidence and prepare for their future pathways.
Students are also participating in an in-house volunteering program with Miracle Babies. Through volunteering, they are supporting families in need while strengthening skills such as empathy, responsibility, and organisation. This experience encourages a sense of community and shows the importance of balancing commitments to others alongside personal responsibilities.
These combined learning experiences are equipping Year 11 students with practical tools and personal growth, setting them up to effectively manage multiple commitments and thrive in diverse environments.
