Improving Teaching and Learning

Last Saturday Carrie and I attended the La Trobe University Conference all about the Science of Learning.

We heard from researchers and educators around the state on how schools are implementing learning routines and embedding strategies that maximise student attention and cognitive engagement to optimize learning.

We learnt that our approaches over recent years focusing on high behavioural expectations, alongside using strategies that make all students participate and think - such as choral response, mini whiteboards for assessment and turn and talks - are highly effective for learning.

With every teacher in the College engaging in regular coaching to are focused on improving learning for students by improving the quality of teaching.

Through coaching teachers can practice their skills in and out of the class and get feedback to improve. T

he latest AtoSS data shows that we are having the impact we would like. These data indicate that we are tracking above or well above when compared to similar schools and the state, in all measures.

We are pleased with the improvement in the quality of teaching and will continue to work collaboratively to support all teachers to be the best they can be.
