What Makes a Great Connection? Values

This week in Connect, we’ve kept our “What makes a great connection?” theme going, with a new focus on values.

We’ve been talking about the things that matter to us, the principles we try to live by, and how our values can shape the way we treat other people, approach challenges and contribute to the spaces we’re part of.

Rather than just talking about values, students have been exploring what they actually look like in real life through creativity, teamwork and practical projects.

One of our activities involved painting our own interpretation of a chosen value. Students were encouraged to think beyond just writing the word and instead consider what that value might look or feel like to them. It was great to see how differently students interpreted the same ideas and how they turned things like respect, kindness, courage, honesty and belonging into something visual and personal.

There’s also been plenty happening around the Connect space itself. Our boys group has reached a big milestone with their library project.

After plenty of repairing, sanding and problem-solving along the way, the library is finally ready for painting. It’s been really rewarding to see the progress from where it started to where it is now, especially knowing the students have had such a hands-on role in bringing it back to life.

Another group has been working outside on our Connect picnic table, giving it some much-needed attention and helping restore a space that everyone can enjoy. Projects like these have been a great way for students to practise teamwork, patience, responsibility and taking pride in something that belongs to the wider community.

It’s been one of those weeks where the room has been busy, a little messy and full of people getting stuck into something together. Between the paint, the repairs, the outdoor projects and the conversations happening along the way, there’s been a lot of connection happening.

Values haven’t just been something we’ve talked about, students have been showing them through the way they work together, share ideas, help each other and take ownership of the spaces around them.

A very busy, very hands-on and very fun week in Connect.
