Salford Park Art Show
On Thu 27 August, we held the inaugural Visual Art & Technology Show at Salford Park Retirement Village in conjunction with Knox City Council.
The exhibition was a fantastic opportunity for our talented Art students to showcase their work, particularly those in Years 7-10. from across a range of subject areas, including Art, Visual Communication, Film and Digital Photography, Ceramics, Media and more.
The event ran from 10am to 2pm, and the Salford Park residents who visited the exhibition were overawed with the quality of work on display.
Residents were able to engage with a number of our Art students who were on hand to talk about what they are learning in class and the techniques and processes behind select art works.
Adding a fun vibe to the day, our Year 11 VCE Music students provided live music, helping to create a vibrant atmosphere.
My name is Roza and I am a current VCE Unit 1/2 Music student. Recently our Music class visited Salford Park Retirement Village to play music for the residents at the Art Show. This performance opportunity was a memorable experience for us, and we were able to refine our performing skills in a real community setting, connecting with people beyond the classroom and share what we’ve been working on. It was great to chat to the residents as they wandered the art exhibition and enjoyed our performances.
Many shared with us that they come to our school production each year. The Salford Park Chaplain also joined in playing a favourite song on piano for everyone’s enjoyment. Our class was grateful to represent the school and support the Art Show. Overall, the experience strengthened our confidence and connected us with others; becoming a memory we will keep as we grow. ~ Roza Basel, Year 11
In the Salford Park lounge, residents were able to chat with our student leaders whilst enjoying a light refreshments provided by our Food Studies students, this included home made choc chip cookies, lemon myrtle slice and yo-yo's.
Student leaders were fascinated by the stories being told and were able to share some of their own stories about school life in return. Ultimately the event was a huge success and a great opportunity for intergenerational connection between such close neighbours.
I would like to thank Elizabeth Plumridge from Salford park who was integral to bringing this event together, along with Breeana Bloomfield from Knox City Council, whose work bridges the gap between generations young and old.
Thank you to Jo Steen from the Foods team for baking the delicious food to share with residents. Dan Clarke for his support in helping bump the event in and out and our wonderful Art captains Mila Nacevska and Zahara Paulger for all their help in setting up and leading conversations with residents on the day.
I commend the Art students and Student Leaders who attended for volunteering their time on the day (you've all received a green post on Compass); the residents appreciated the connection and conversations and were extremely positive in their feedback.

Salford Park Village Spring Market

Our friends at Salford Park will be holding a community Spring Market in October. It will include a Sausage Sizzle, Raffles, Plants, Books and Craft stores amongst others. Please pop this in your calendar!
