Year 8 Science
Knox Innovation Opportunity & Sustainability Centre
Over the past few weeks our Year 8 students have been diving into the world of Electricity. Students have been learning all about Static Electricity and what it can do to your hair when the charge builds up as well as looking at how electricity flows through Conductors, like metals, and Insulators, like wood.

They've also had the opportunity to attend three sessions at the Sustainable Futures KIOSC program. The first looked at building sustainable houses that keep you cool in summer but warm in winter;

The second session involved coding robots that would be able to collect seeds and plant them in vertical planters to help continue growing fresh produce in small areas;

And the final session saw students testing different types of energy production. They looked at wind, hydro, biofuel and hydrogen power.

We look forward to seeing what they can achieve in the rest of this topic.
