Inspired by Alice Oehr

Over the past four weeks, the Grade 3 and 4 students have been exploring the vibrant world of Melbourne-based artist and illustrator Alice Oehr. Known for her bold and playful artworks, Alice often draws inspiration from one of her favourite subjects—food!

One of the key texts students explored was Artichoke to Zucchini, an alphabet book that takes readers on a colourful culinary journey from A to Z. Using this book as a springboard, students designed their own food-themed collages.

They began by creating textured papers using acrylic paint, experimenting with colour, texture, and pattern.

Through this project, students developed their ability to verbalise and reflect on their artistic choices. They considered how to create movement, select colours intentionally, and achieve balance and harmony in their compositions.

The final artworks are as delicious to look at as they are creative!
