Year 4 News

From the 4C cohort

It’s been a wildly wonderful few weeks in 4C!

We’ve been busy being mathematicians and authors! From exploring tricky fractions and writing descriptive comics to designing our dream houses, our brains have had quite the workout.

 Maths

“In Maths we learnt about fractions. We learned about adding fractions, subtracting fractions, converting fractions into decimals, and equivalent, mixed, and improper fractions. We played different Maths games on fractions too. I liked the game where we were given a fraction and had to make it.” – Victoria

We’re now beginning our Measurement unit. Students in 4C have been designing their own houses, carefully calculating the area and perimeter of each room. While some homes are still under renovation, our architects are showing great creativity and persistence.Parents, don’t be surprised if your child comes home measuring your lounge room or pitching ideas for a PlayStation room!

Writing

“Scribble, scribble, scribble… that’s the sound of 4C working hard on their writing pieces. We have been working on descriptive comic writing and publishing our narratives, information reports, and persuasive pieces. I have been enjoying it because I get to finish the work that I want to finish.” – Evie

"Nom, nom, munch, munch. That's the sound of Capybaras eating. I published an information report on Capybaras. They like to eat a lot and are the cutest animal ever!" - Eleanor

 Reading

“In Reading I learnt how to use two letters that are used to make one sound. Letters like ‘ph,’ ‘sh,’ and ‘th.’ We used some of these letters to make silly sentences in our writing. This is what I wrote (photo below). As you can see, I used two letters to make one sound. After we finished these, we had a competition to see who had the most digraphs in one sentence.” – Memphis

Wellbeing

“In Wellbeing we have been focusing on ‘Friendship.’ Friendship is a hard thing to figure out. So we made a Friendship Toolkit that you can look at when friends are getting hard. There are some pointers that can help you get through the tough times. We could decorate it any way we wanted, and we did lots of different designs that made us happy.” – Scarlett and Frankie

 OLA

“In OLA we have been working on the meanings of different words related to culture and country. We made a glossary with the meanings of words such as ‘coat of arms,’ ‘celebration,’ and ‘heritage.’ We searched for their meanings using the dictionary or Kiddle and typed them into Book Creator. I think I speak for all of 4C when I say that we enjoyed this activity and look forward to doing more of it in the future.” – Mattea
