Science Spotlight

Preps

As we continue our Biology Unit on ‘Living Things’, the Preps have been exploring plants - including what they are and what they need to survive. Here are some vegetable experiments we have set up in the Science Room. Maybe you could set up some similar experiments in your home.

Grade 1

This week we have focused on the body covering ‘Scales’. Students understand the importance of scales in protecting an animal, as well as helping the animal move and have colouration.

Grade 2

Congratulations to the Grade 2s who are at the final stages of writing up their animal information reports, as well as creating models and dioramas. Thank you students and families for all of the extra research you have put into this project.

Grade 3

The grade 3 students are finishing off their animal information reports. Students have also started designing some 3D models of their animals. We have also been discussing animal conservation and what humans can do to protect endangered species.

Grade 4/5

We are looking to the future in grade 4 and 5 for the next few weeks. Students have been brainstorming and applying their biology knowledge to design and build future cities, making sure to include spaces for all organisms.

Grade 6

This week students will be presenting their solutions to real world environmental scenarios in Victoria. There has been a wide range of presentation techniques, such as plays, 3D models, persuasive speeches and dioramas.
