Thank You to the School Community
As we near the end of Term 2, I wanted to take a moment to thank all the staff, students and families for a successful semester of learning and growth.
Student Reporting Process
Student reports will be shared with parents via Compass on Friday 4th July. We encourage parents to read and reflect upon your child’s report and celebrate their successes.
As shared previously, this year our formal reporting of student learning and wellbeing is provided through our Semester Reports and through our Parent-Teacher Interviews held at the beginning of Term Three. Meeting at the beginning of a new semester allows teachers and families to meet to celebrate students’ achievements and to set learning goals for the semester ahead.
Details on how to book your Parent-Teacher Interview will be shared shortly via Compass.
Staffing Update
At the end of Term 2, we say goodbye to Jen Elphinstone as she begins her family leave. We wish Jen all the best as she welcomes the new addition to her family.
We also say farewell to Gen Kelly. Gen will finish up as an ES staff member at NMPS to pursue a teaching career after completing her studies this year. We wish Gen all the best as she enters the teaching workforce.
We welcome back Assistant Principal, Gabi Panozzo, in Term 3. Gabi will be working three days a week across both campuses on her return to work for Semester 2.
We also welcome Teaching Assistant, Evi Lim, to our NMPS team who will begin at the start of Term 3.
For the last month we have been trialling a new Teaching Assistant Model at NMPS. This model is based on 7 recommendations from the latest research examining the use of Teaching Assistants in classrooms. Research is focused around how best to deploy, train and support Teaching Assistants to improve learning outcomes for students. Recommendations are arranged into three sections; Teaching Assistants in everyday classroom contexts, Teaching Assistants delivering structured interventions out of class, and Linking learning in everyday contexts and structured interventions. We are committed to this model and will continue to review and refine the way we work with our Teaching Assistants at NMPS over the year. Currently we are focused on the area of Teaching Assistants in everyday classroom contexts.
I will be taking Long Service Leave for the first week of Term 3. Tom Drummond will step into the Acting Principal role while I am away.
First Aid Notifications - 'Sick Bay' Attendance
We have recently reviewed our first aid processes and procedures at both campuses. Moving forward, if a student attends the sick bay and are administrated first aid for a minor injury, parents will receive a sick bay notification via email stating the reason the student attended the sick bay and the treatment provided.
At times, teachers tend to students in the yard and they are not admitted to the sick bay. In this case, parents will not receive a sick bay notification.
Parents will continue to be contacted via phone for major injuries and illnesses.
Please refer to the 'First Aid' page in this newsletter for more information.
New Zebra Crossing Coming Soon
We have been informed by Citywide, on behalf of City of Melbourne, that works are scheduled to commence on the new zebra crossing at Errol/Haines St on 7th July.
Whole School Assembly
There will be a whole school assembly on Friday 4th July at 9:15am at our Molesworth Street Campus to celebrate the end of Term 2. This assembly is an opportunity for us to come together, celebrate our achievements, and reinforce the unity that makes our school community so special. The whole school assembly will also be an opportunity to acknowledge NAIDOC Week, as this falls during the school holidays.
Parents and carers from both campuses are invited to attend this assembly, as our 3-6 students will be walking across with their teachers on Friday morning.
Happy and Safe Holidays
As this is the last newsletter published before the end of term, I wish everyone a safe, relaxing and enjoyable break beginning on Friday 4th July. We look forward to welcoming all students back to school on Tuesday 22nd July.
