Auslan

From Caen and Simone, Auslan Teachers
We’ve been having a fantastic time in Auslan this term! Students have shown tremendous growth in both their confidence and communication skills, and it’s been wonderful to see them engaging so enthusiastically.
Over the past two weeks, our focus has been on learning signs for the days of the week and months of the year. These topics help build important everyday vocabulary and give students the tools to talk about time and routine in Auslan.
We’ve also been diving deeper into lexicon, understanding how signs are grouped and used in context. This helps students not only expand their vocabulary but also understand how to structure their communication more naturally.
To make learning fun and meaningful:
- We played a board game themed around the days of the week and months of the year. This was a great way to reinforce vocabulary while encouraging turn-taking, communication, and teamwork.
- A copy of the board game has been included in the newsletter — feel free to print it and play at home with your child to continue the learning together!
- We’ve also spent time revising past signs to strengthen memory and fluency, ensuring students feel confident building on what they’ve already learned.
It’s been a joy to watch students supporting each other, asking questions, and applying their knowledge in real conversations. We’re excited to keep building on this foundation in the coming weeks!

Students are scaffolding literacy through fingerspelling and practicing fair-play to boost class morale and build socialising skills.
