Molesworth Street Kindergarten

From Audrey, Early Childhood Teacher
Welcoming Cookie in the Rosella Group
In the Rosella group, one of the 3 and 4 year old mixed age groups, a new friend was introduced to the children. His name was Cookie the Puppet. Everyone was excited to meet him! Cookie told us that he was feeling a little sad and worried. He shared some stories about times when he wasn’t happy such as when his friends didn’t listen, or when someone has hurt his feelings. He didn’t know what to do, so he asked the children at Kindergarten for help.
The Rosella's had great ideas:
“You can say, ‘Stop, I don’t like it.’"
“You can ask a teacher for help.”
“You can make an angry face and walk away if someone is not being kind.”
We talked about feelings and how we can tell how someone feels by their face and body. We practiced expressing how we feel, sad, happy, angry, or scared. To help Cookie feel safe and happy, we told him some of the rules we have at Kindergarten and these rules are for everyone!
We have to be kind. We use gentle hands. We Listen to each other. We take care of each other. We ask for help We respect each other's body bubbles.
Everyone gave Cookie a warm welcome with smiles and kind words. We told him, “You are safe here. You are my friend.” Having Cookie in our room helps us learn about feelings, being kind, and solve problems with friends.
