Record Breaking Reads!
Book Week
WOW! What an incredible Book Week! We are thrilled to share that Grade 4 came out on top as the best corridor! We could not be prouder of the creativity, effort and enthusiasm our students poured into bringing our corridor to life. If you haven’t had a chance to see it yet, make sure you pop by and check it out!
Throughout the past few weeks, students have been exploring the exciting connection between books and music. We wondered: How can a book inspire a song? What song might be playing in a character’s head? How could a particular scene be brought to life through music? Students used these ideas to recreate vinyl album covers inspired by their favourite books and carefully selected songs to create a tracklist that connected to the characters, themes, feelings and important moments within their texts.
Students also put their creativity to work creating amazing pop-up books. From folding and cutting to gluing and designing, there were certainly plenty of busy hands around the classroom! All their hard work came together to create a spectacular Book Week display that we are incredibly proud of.
Democracy, Community and Me - Incursion
A few weeks ago, Year 4 had the fantastic opportunity to take part in a hands-on Democracy, Community and Me incursion. Students explored the role of local government and investigated how rules, laws and decisions can shape the communities we live in.
One of the highlights was our very own mock election! Students stepped into the roles of councillors and community members, taking part in role-play, debating important issues and making decisions that could impact their community. It was fantastic to see students confidently sharing their ideas, listening to different perspectives and working together to solve problems. Who knows, we may have some future politicians in Grade 4!
Maths
We have been building on our understanding of fractions, decimals and percentages. Students have been revisiting key fraction concepts and strengthening their ability to represent, compare and work with fractions in different ways.
We have also been putting our mathematical thinking to the test through a range of hands-on games and challenges, including Colour Me in Fractions and our Biggest Fraction challenge, where students used addition and subtraction strategies to create the largest fraction they could.
It has been wonderful to see students becoming more confident in explaining their mathematical thinking, trying different strategies and challenging themselves. We are so impressed with the progress Grade 4 has made so far!
