Dr Who....no Dr Seuss!
What a fortnight! The Year 1s have been true literacy lunatics, embracing all the fantastic Book Week madness! It has been a wonderfully immersive experience, with the level transformed into a whacky Dr Seuss wonderland. The students have enthusiastically embraced their love of books and are excited to share some of their reviews with you.

Writing
We have been practising how to use a visual seed to sprout ideas for narrative writing. As a whole class, they unpacked the visual imagel using the See, Think, Wonder strategy before independently using the CSPACE (Character, Setting, Problem, Action, Conclusion, Emotions) tool to plan their own stories. They then had a go at writing their narratives within a set time frame, followed by time to edit and refine their work. During editing, students focused on checking their use of capital letters and punctuation, as well as upscaling their word choices to include more sophisticated vocabulary.
Maths
We have enjoyed exploring time using both analogue and digital clocks. We focused on o’clock and half past times, with a particular emphasis on correctly placing the minute and hour hands. As an added challenge, we also explored quarter past and quarter to times. And, of course, the students had the pleasure of making their own clock faces, which is always a fun favourite! Some students even got to make them with their buddies. Double bonus!
Wellbeing
We focused on recognising how our bodies respond to different emotions and understanding the importance of noticing these signals and responding with appropriate coping strategies. The students are becoming increasingly confident in sharing their feelings and discussing the strategies they can use to help manage their emotions.
Thank you for sharing our learning experiences with us. We have a few more magical weeks together before we head off for a lovely Spring break!
