Pure Imagination
The Year 2s have had a jam-packed couple weeks of school.

We have done a deep dive on Roald Dahl’s classic story of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Across both reading and writing, our Year 2s took inspiration from book to create their own imaginative characters.
Inspired by Roald Dahl’s fantastic characters, we started with a name and then built the character from that. The inside and outside traits had to match the name. For example, how would you describe the characteristics of someone named Horatio Grubster versus Hermione Honeybee? We created profiles for our characters, including an image and descriptive paragraph.
We then spent some time writing and reading newspaper articles about exciting events in the book. We looked at key features of news articles, and wrote our own for when Charlie won the factory. Always remember: a news article must answer the 5 W questions of who, what, where, when, and why.
Finally, we used alliteration to create our own wonderful, whimsical, Wonka bars! Our Year 2s got to pretend they were Oompa Loompas, coming up with their own candy bar creation and then physically making a candy for our candy shop. This utilized all our Year 2s creativity and craft skills!
All of this inspiration was in preparation for our Book Week display. Thank you to all the families who came out and saw the Year 2 class display. Our Year 2s had their character profiles and creative candy bars on show. They also created lots of other candies to hang around our space. Maths
We have spent the past two weeks looking at interpreting data and patterns. Our Year 2s investigated, analyzed, and answered questions about a wide variety of graphs, including picture graphs, bar graphs, double bar graphs, dot plots, and Carroll diagrams. In patterns, we practiced finding sequences with pictures and numbers. We needed to identify the rule, find the missing terms, and complete the sequences. For example, see if you and your child can finish this pattern: 5, 7, 10, 14, _ , _ .
On top of all our learning and Book Week, the Year 2s also had a couple visits to the school. One was from the author Andy Griffiths. It was amazing to see our students be inspired and interactive with Andy. This was a truly special experience for all of us! We also had Meerkat Productions come to our school to present their play based on Dear Broccoli by Jo Dabrowski. We are so lucky to have had such an exciting couple weeks of visits to our school.
It has been a busy, bustling, brilliant couple weeks!
