Year 6 News

From Madeleine Murphy, Year 6 Teacher and students of 6E
The Wondeful Year 6's of Errol Street
We have had a wonderfully busy time in Year 6! We have been celebrating Book Week, heading out on exciting excursions and welcoming our Prep Buddies to our Errol Street Campus.
Year 6 have had a fabulous time celebrating their final Book Week of their primary school years. We were fortunate enough to be visited by not one, but two extremely talented authors, Tristan Banks and Andy Griffiths. Students were inspired by their presentations and learned a range of writing techniques, including the ‘Oh no!’ and ‘Oh yes!’ technique and how to draw on their own life experiences for inspiration.
Our classrooms have also been transformed into the Land of Oz! 6E has been transported all the way to Munchkin Land. We have explored quotes from two of our favourite Oz stories, The Wizard of Oz and the more recent prequel Wicked. During Reading, we have investigated the rich symbolism within The Wizard of Oz and explored what each character might represent. We also met so many amazing characters during Thursday’s Book Week Parade!
State Library
On Monday 17 August, Year 6 journeyed to the State Library to explore the World of Books exhibition. We had the opportunity to celebrate the history of bookmaking and learn about the cultural impact of storytelling. We saw the work of female authors being championed, explored rare editions of famous books and had the opportunity to visit the beautiful
La Trobe Reading Room.
University High
On Wednesday 19 August, we were lucky enough to be invited to University High School, where many of our Year 6 students will be attending next year. We watched their Junior and Senior Ensembles perform an impressive range of songs, including Livin’ on a Prayer, California Dreamin’, a traditional Mexican song and many more.
It was wonderful to see the school’s music program in action, and we hope to see many of our students representing NMPS next year!
Buddies Visit to Errol Street Campus
Our Prep students came to visit us at Errol Street this week. We gave them a tour of our school and showed them the amazing Book Week displays created by students across Years 3–6.
The Prep students loved having the opportunity to play on our playground and, as always, our Year 6 students were fantastic role models displaying our RISE values.
