Mental Health and Wellbeing

Hi DPS community

I hope the Term has been a great one for you thus far.

Respectful Relationships

This term, in our Respectful Relationships lessons, students will be learning about help-seeking and stress management. Throughout these lessons, students will discuss:

  • Trusted adults they can go to for help and support.
  • Different ways to manage stress in healthy and positive ways.
  • The importance of asking for help when they need it.
  • Strategies to support their own wellbeing and the wellbeing of others.

Inclusion and diversity

At DPS, we are proud of the way our school embraces, includes and welcomes all cultures. This term, I have had the pleasure of teaching every grade across our school as students participated in discussions about racism, including how to respond to racist comments and how to be an active and supportive bystander.

Together, we defined racism and explored respectful ways to respond when racist comments occur. I would also like to thank all classroom teachers for teaching two additional lessons this term. I appreciate the commitment of our staff to promoting inclusion, respect and a strong sense of belonging for every student.

Kaboom Sports

We are excited to host Kaboom Sports for our Prep to Grade 2 students from 1:45 pm–3:10 pm on Thursday September 17. Students will work together in multi-age groups as they participate in a variety of fun team sports and activities.

This event will be led by many of our Grade 6 students, and I appreciate the leadership, enthusiasm and responsibility they will demonstrate throughout the afternoon. We are delighted to bring our school community together and warmly welcome parents and carers to come along and enjoy the fun on the school oval.

World Principals' Day

We look forward to celebrating World Principals' Day on 7 August. Days like this provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to recognise our exceptional leadership team—Jarod Ryan, Julia Bay and Niky Corfios—for their ongoing care, support, guidance and leadership.

All students have written a special message for our principals, which will be placed in a jar for them to read and enjoy. It is a lovely way to show our appreciation, and we are incredibly proud of the kindness and gratitude our students continue to demonstrate. Go team DPS!
