Level Four

Level 4 students have made a wonderful start to Term 3. They have shown great determination, enthusiasm and curiosity which has created a wonderful and positive learning environment for all 😊

Reading

In Reading, Level 4 students have been developing their ability to make meaningful connections while reading a variety of texts and their individual iPick books. We have focused on making text-to-self, text-to-text and text-to-world connections, encouraging students to think deeply about what they are reading and relate it to their own experiences, other texts they have read, and the world around them. Students have enjoyed sharing their ideas and discovering how their personal experiences and knowledge can help them understand texts in greater depth.

Writing

Our Writing sessions have been filled with creativity as students have been exploring the wonderful world of poetry! We have focused on writing haiku, simile poems and rhyming poems, with students becoming incredibly engaged and enthusiastic about experimenting with language and expressing their ideas in creative ways. It has been wonderful to see students confidently showcase their individual writing styles, use descriptive language and have fun bringing their poems to life.

Maths

In Maths, students have been investigating 2D and 3D shapes and their properties. They have been learning to identify and describe features such as edges, vertices and faces, while developing their understanding of how shapes can be classified and described.

Students have also been learning about rotation and translation. They had lots of fun creating their own patterns using 2D shapes and applying different transformations. Students have been using mathematical terminology such as clockwise, anticlockwise, quarter turn, half turn, three-quarter turn and full rotation to accurately describe the movements of shapes. Their creativity and mathematical thinking have really shone through during these hands-on activities!

Theme

In Theme, we have been learning about Indigenous histories and cultures, exploring important aspects of First Nations cultures and traditions. Students have been learning about Dreaming stories and Indigenous languages, developing an appreciation and understanding of the rich cultural knowledge and traditions that have been passed down through generations.

We have also been making connections between our Theme learning and our class novel study, Nerra: The Broken Rainbow. Students have been using the novel to deepen their understanding of Indigenous perspectives, stories, culture and connection to Country. It has been wonderful to see students making thoughtful connections between our reading and Theme learning and engaging respectfully with these important topics. 

We are so proud of our Level 4 students and are looking forward to our upcoming camp in Week 7!
