Level Two

In Level 2, we have had a wonderful start to Term 3. Please see the outline of our learning this term.

 

In Phonics, students are learning to:

-revise over digraphs and trigraphs. 

Students are also learning about morphology and building fluency during these sessions.

 

In Reading/Writing students are learning to:

 

-Identify key features of settings, characters and events

-Discuss how characters act, change, feel and respond to challenges

-Explain causes, consequences, traits and motivations, using evidence from the story

-Describe how weather, adaptations and settings influence animals and characters

-Write sentences that show understanding of characters, traits, wishes, or personal    connections

In Grammar, students are learning to:

-identify independent and dependent clauses, subordinating conjunctions and boundary punctuation.

 

In Maths, students are learning to:

 

Multiply and Divide

Students explore number patterns and relationships to develop early algebraic thinking. They identify patterns, represent unknown values and explain mathematical reasoning.

Tell the Time 

Students read analogue and digital clocks, compare and measure time and solve simple problems involving duration and everyday schedules. Students use calendars, timetables and schedules to sequence events, calculate simple elapsed time and solve practical time-related problems.

 

Use operations involving money

Students apply number operations when working with Australian money, calculating totals, change and simple purchasing problems in real-life contexts.

 

In Theme, students are learning about:

 

  • Where Australia is in the world
  • How many states and territories does Australia have?
  • Why is the population of Australian states and territories different?
  • What are the major bodies of water in Australia and how do people use them?
  • Which major geographical features does Australia boast?
  • What are some of the ecosystems in Australia?
  • Where do people live in Australia?
  • Why is Australia such a multicultural country?

 

This term we have implemented Mini Assemblies for our levels. In Level 2, students learnt a song to perform in this time. It was pleasing to see them perform at the whole school face to face assembly in Week 4. 

 

Some events to look forward to in the coming weeks are Science Week in week 6 and Book Week in week 7. Please see the page titled Literacy for more information about the Book Week schedule of events.
