EAL Term 3 Update

In Year 1 and Year 2 - Through stories such as The City Mouse and the Country Mouse, students are practising how to retell events in the correct order. They are learning to identify the beginning, middle and end of a story and to share opinions about characters using simple reasons.  Students are also strengthening their reading fluency and spelling through high-frequency word practice, sentence writing, Read and Draw activities and repeated reading of fluency texts.

In Year 3 to Year 5 - This term, students are exploring weather and seasons while building their English vocabulary, reading and writing skills. Through Jane Bunn’s Storm, students are learning new weather words and practising how to retell events in order. They are also learning about the seasons in Australia and their country of birth. In writing, students are creating simple information reports about their favourite season, including the weather, months and activities that are enjoyed in their favourite season.

In Year 6 - This term students have been immersed in understanding weather vocabulary, researching facts about extreme weather and comparing the climate of Australia with the climate of their country of birth. Students are learning how to organise their ideas using an introduction, body paragraphs and a conclusion, while continuing to edit their spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
