Year 3- ‘Mechanics & Magnetism’
This term, our Year 3 students are diving into the exciting world of forces and motion. Students will explore the invisible powers of the air around us and friction. They will conduct hands-on experiments with ramps and different surfaces to see how forces change an object’s speed and direction. By predicting and testing movements, they will learn exactly how physical science shapes the world around them.
Year 4- ‘Thermodynamics!’
Our Year 4 students will be exploring the science of heat energy this term. Through experiments, they will investigate how heat is produced and how it moves between different objects. Students will learn the difference between temperature and heat, while observing how thermal energy can change solids into liquids. They will also test everyday materials to discover which ones are great heat conductors and which ones make the best insulators.
Year 5- ‘Optics: Absorbed, Reflected & Refracted’
An illuminating term lies ahead for Year 5 as they explore the wonders of light and optics. Students will study how light travels in straight lines and how it bounces, bends, and absorbs. They will combine this science with history by exploring analog photography and learning how the very first cameras worked. The students will even build their own "camera obscura" pinhole viewers to see light refraction change an image before their eyes.
Year 6- ‘Electronic Product Development and Design’
Our Year 6 cohort will become real world product designers. Blending science and technologies, students will first learn how electrical energy safely flows through working circuits. They will then use Makers empire, designing and 3D-printing a custom physical case for their project. Finally, they will wire their own real circuits directly into their finished 3D prints, understanding how an idea can become a product and the reality of prototyping with accuracy and precision.
We are looking forward to a great term of exploring physics in our science classrooms.
