Have you seen my Polar Bear?

We hope everyone had a restful holidays and are feeling excited for the start of term 3. Our Year 2s have hit the ground running and are straight back into their learning!

Reading

We have begun to investigate the book A Journey Home and delved into some different reading skills. The Year 2s have become question experts, as we spent some time creating and answering different questions about the book. We also did some research into polar bears in order to effectively answer our questions. 

Writing

Our Year 2s have practiced their writing using a few different skills. We have practiced adding descriptive words to our noun phrases. Ask your child, how could you describe a polar bear? Using our descriptive noun phrases, our Year 2s then created a missing poster for an animal from our book. They practiced using statements, questions, and exclamations. Do you know what a question is? Ask your child! 

We have also worked on a few creative writing pieces this week. We created missing posters for the animals in our book, practicing our descriptive noun phrases and exclamations. Then we wrote and published postcards from the animals in the book, working on using first person, past tense, and recount structure.

Maths

We have revisited place value. We are using three- and four-digit numbers to practice representing, partitioning, comparing, and ordering. We have used our place value houses to revisit thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones. You can practice ordering at home by rolling a dice three or four times to create a three- or four-digit number, creating four of these numbers, and then ordering those from smallest to biggest or biggest to smallest. 

We have had a fantastic first week back to learning and are looking forward to a great term 3!
