Gordon Ramsey eat your heart out!!

Welcome back to Term 3! Our Year 3 students have made a fantastic start to the term, returning with enthusiasm and a positive attitude toward their learning.

At the end of last term, we enjoyed an exciting excursion to the Melbourne Museum. Students had a wonderful time exploring the exhibitions, making new discoveries and connecting their classroom learning with the objects and stories on display. It was a memorable way to finish the term, and we were proud of the curiosity and excellent behaviour demonstrated by our students throughout the day.

This term, Year 3 students have begun cooking lessons. During our first session, students learned about kitchen expectations, safety procedures and how our cooking space operates. They then put these skills into practice by making delicious cheese and herb twists. The students thoroughly enjoyed working together, following the recipe and, of course, tasting their creations!

Reading

We have been exploring explanation texts and videos about different inventions. Students are learning how these texts explain how or why something works, as well as identifying their purpose, audience and organisational features. In Writing, students have begun creating their own explanation text about an invention they already know well. They are working on clearly describing how their chosen invention works and organising their ideas so they are easy for the reader to follow.

Maths

Our Mathematics focus has been place value. Students have been reading, writing, representing and partitioning large numbers, including numbers beyond 10,000. We have paid particular attention to the important role of zero as a placeholder and explored different ways to break numbers into their place-value parts.

We are delighted with the way our Grade 3 students have begun Term 3 and look forward to another term filled with learning, creativity and exciting new experiences!
