Wurundjeri Cultural Perspectives in Performing Arts

Following on from our visits from the Djirri Djirri Dancers last term, we have been incorporating more perspectives from Wurudnjeri culture and language in our Performing Arts Classrooms.

In the last week of Term 2, classes in the Molesworth Campus made soundscapes to represent the elements of the Wurundjeri Season of Warinj (Wombat). Each class gently improvised atmospheric music to represent the misty mornings and the plants and animals that are active in this season. The Language of the Wurundjeri People is Woi-Wurrung. We have started incorporating more Woi-Wurrung Language into our Performing Arts Classrooms since Mikayla from the Djirri Djirri Dancers led a Language Awareness Training Workshop for teachers last term. This week all our students have been learning how to sing “Heads, Shoulders Knees and Toes” in Wurundjeri.

NMPS Parents Rock!

Tickets are on sale to come and watch North Melbourne’s Parent’s Rock Band compete at the annual Parents Battle of the Bands! This year two NMPS parent bands, Rock’n’Roll Call and The Heavy Dads have combined into one group to strut their stuff representing our school in this fun night of rock. Win or lose, it’s a party, and the money raised goes to support music education at our school.
