The Midas Touch

After a nice two week holiday spending time with family and friends and having fun the Grade 5s have come back ready to learn and with lots to look forward to in the coming term. 5 C, D and E all welcomed a new student this term and those students have been settling in well with their classes demonstrating all the RISE values for them. We are excited to meet our buddies this term and spend time getting to know them, and the thing we are most excited for is Philip Island camp in a month's time! 

Reading

We have been focusing on myths and legends from around the world. Applying our comprehension skills and taking lessons from these ancient stories. We have also found and read the myths associated with common English words and phrases such as ‘The Midas Touch’ ,'Achilles Heel’ and ‘Echo’. 

Writing 

We have been using figurative language and have applied similes, metaphors and personification into our writing. We have also been crafting well structured sentences and making sure our sentences use a lot of detail. 

Maths 

We have been learning about decimal place value. We have played decimal counting games, place decimal numbers into correct order, and practised renaming decimal numbers. 

Humanities

On Friday we will be presenting the Humanities Projects we worked on last term. We have invented a product made to prevent a natural disaster or help when it is occurring or in the aftermath. It was so interesting learning all about natural disasters and the design process and we are excited to show it off.
