Celebrating Diversity         & Belonging

... news from your Anti-Racism Contact Officer

We Are One @ Camden High - Celebrating Diversity and Belonging

From your ARCO

2026 has begun with a range of exciting new initiatives led by our school’s new Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO), Mrs White. During Staff Professional Learning Week, staff participated in a presentation on the NSW Department of Education Anti-Racism Policy, our school procedures and our school context. This session supported staff with practical strategies to address racism in both the classroom and playground and to promote behaviours that celebrate the many cultures represented within our school community. The role of the ARCO was also highlighted, ensuring additional support is available so that everyone feels respected and valued at work and at school. This work reflects our core message: We Are One @ Camden High.

During Week 2, our Student Leadership Council (SLC) also took part in an Anti-Racism Training Day led by external presenters from the Department of Education’s Anti-Racism Team. The training explored themes of diversity and connectedness, the causes and impacts of racism and strategies for upstander action. These skills will support our student leaders in their roles as positive role models within our school community.

Our SLC impressed the presenters, who shared the following feedback:

“We were particularly impressed by the students’ respectful engagement throughout the session. They approached the learning with maturity, contributed meaningfully to discussions, and demonstrated a genuine willingness to reflect on their role in building an inclusive school community.”

The training day also gave the SLC the opportunity to put their learning into action through our very first Reject Racism Day. Held in Week 3, SLC students and staff wore matching shirts as part of an initiative to promote a positive and respectful school culture. The SLC designed an awareness poster, the library created a display celebrating books from a range of cultures and student leaders addressed the school at assembly. Let’s continue to reject racism, stand together, and ensure our school remains a place where everyone belongs - because We Are One @ Camden High.
