The Wiritjiribin Word
Our Aboriginal Education Coordinator, Mrs White, has been meeting with all First Nations students to reflect on their successes and challenges from 2025 and to set new academic, personal and cultural goals for their 2026 Personalised Learning Pathways. This process provides students with clear direction and focus for the year ahead.
Creating PLPs is a mandatory requirement for all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students across NSW Department of Education schools and is an important tool to ensure students, teachers and families are working together to support students in achieving their goals.
We are also thrilled to celebrate our 2026 GO Foundation Scholars - 13 dedicated Year 9-12 students who were awarded scholarships for their commitment to education and culture. They have already completed their first mentor check-in, and we look forward to seeing the educational and cultural opportunities this scholarship will provide.
We love working with our partner primary schools and during Week 5 we were thrilled to take a group of ex students to the Oakdale Public School Yarning Circle Opening. These students played a key role in the planning of the Yarning Circle during their time as students of Oakdale Public School and it was very special to see their ideas come to life, to hear about the local area from Aunty Lynn and take part in a smoking lead by Uncle Eddie.

We are looking forward to our first DEADLY Study Sessions for our Year 7 and 8 First Nations students, beginning in Week 6. These sessions will be held twice per term and provide students with the opportunity to connect with local knowledge holders, with a focus on literacy and numeracy through a cultural lens. They are a great way to strengthen key educational skills while also connecting with culture.
It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we look forward to all the exciting learning experiences ahead!
