Year 7 have just begun their language learning journey at CHS and will be learning Japanese throughout 2026. We will be learning how to talk about ourselves, our favourite things in life, how to describe things, and about travelling in Japan.
Did you know that Japan is one of the most visited countries by Australian tourists and it is one of the most commonly taught languages at high schools across Australia?
Year 7 students are diving into an exciting mix of Orchestral music, film soundtracks, piano and djembe drumming this term! They’re learning how music helps tell stories on screen, building basic piano skills, and getting hands-on with African drumming as they explore rhythm, teamwork and performance.
Students are working together to create their own group compositions using the djembe, while also discovering how different instruments and musical styles shape mood and emotion. It’s been a high-energy, creative start to their music journey with plenty of collaboration, noise (the good kind!), and fun along the way!
Year 8 have started their high school visual arts experience with a unit focused on self-portraiture. They have completed some different graphite self-portraits already. Using a mirror or photo they have sketched and added tonal value to create some wonderful drawings. They have also experimented with blind-contour drawings to improve their observational skills and expand their understanding of different kinds of art. As the unit progresses, students will start painting and complete the unit with an A3 painted self-portrait.
Our Senior Photography students are jumping into some exciting creative projects this year!
Year 10 will be diving into film making through a Humans of Camden documentary project, learning how to tell real stories using images and video of their surroundings and everyday moments. Students will build confidence behind the camera while developing their creative eye and understanding the importance of storytelling.
Year 11 students will be sharpening their manual camera skills while taking on independent film and street photography projects. These tasks encourage creativity, experimentation, and personal style as students begin working more like real-world photographers.
We can’t wait to see what they create this year - watch this space!
We are thrilled to share the continued success within our Creative and Performing Arts extracurricular groups. Our CAPA club (for Dance and Drama), Vocal Group, and Rock Band have started up again this week and we have seen a fantastic number of students sign up for these fabulous groups already. If you haven’t signed up yet, come down to the CAPA staffroom and have a chat to one of our CAPA teachers about what’s involved in these groups. Don't forget to look out our annual CAPA showcase and other performances throughout the year.
