Year 12 Students

Driving to School

Michael McGowan

It is crucial that all students, along with their parents/carers, are well-informed about these risks and understand the expectations regarding the conduct of our student drivers at Sandringham College. Our school policy on student drivers delineates these expectations.

Under the Graduated Licensing System, student drivers are permitted to transport no more than one peer-aged passenger (aged 16-22 years) – siblings being an exception. This rule is grounded in research demonstrating that young drivers with multiple passengers are more likely to engage in risky behaviours.

Students are permitted to drive to school and park in the school carpark at Holloway Road between Gate 6 and Gate 7.

Driving Expectations

  • Students must adhere to road rules and drive safely.
  • They cannot self-drive to school activities without prior approval from the principal.
  • Students are not permitted to use their car during the school day unless it is for approved reason such as an unavoidable medical appointment
  • Adhere to the 10km/hr speed limit in the carpark

Students who plan on driving to school and parking in the carpark will need to complete a Driving to School Agreement and display a parking permit sticker on their windscreen. Forms can be collected from Student Management.
