Active Insights: Year 11 Physical Education Investigates Activity Levels at Sandringham East Primary!
The Year 11 students have been concentrating on activity levels within various population groups. They collaborated with Sandringham East Primary School to conduct observations utilizing the SOFIT (System for Observing Fitness Instruction Time) tool. SOFIT is a comprehensive instrument designed for assessing physical education (PE) classes and coaching environments. It enables the simultaneous collection of data on student and athlete activity levels, the context of lessons or practices, and the behaviors of teachers or coaches.
Growing Together: Year 11 Health and Human Development Explores Child Development at Sandringham East Primary!
Year 11 Health students recently visited Sandringham East Primary School to observe Grade 3 students during a physical education class. This visit provided a valuable opportunity for the students to explore the four types of development—physical, cognitive, emotional, and social—as they pertain to young learners.
During the observation, the Year 11 students focused specifically on the development of gross and fine motor skills, analyzing how these skills manifested in the students' physical activities. They also paid close attention to the emotional and social development of the Grade 3 students, noting interactions, cooperative play, and communication among peers. This hands-on experience allowed the Year 11 students to apply theoretical concepts from their health curriculum while gaining practical insights into the developmental milestones typical of this age group.
Get Fit, Get Moving: Year 12 Physical Education Takes on F45!
The Year 12 PE students recently embarked on an enriching excursion to Sandringham F45, where they had the opportunity to explore various training methodologies, design and evaluate training programs, and focus on enhancing specific components of fitness.
Throughout this engaging experience, our students actively participated in a range of physical activities, fully immersing themselves in the world of fitness and exercise. A key highlight of the session was an in-depth exploration of circuit training. This dynamic and effective training method involves progressing through a series of diverse exercises that target different muscle groups and fitness components. Circuit training not only challenges the body but also promotes improvements in cardiovascular fitness, strength, and endurance

Strength in Knowledge: Year 10 Extension PE Explores Fitness and the Musculoskeletal System!
Year 10 students enrolled in the elective subject Extension Health and Physical Education (HPE) have commenced the semester by exploring training principles. As part of their studies, the students have designed a four-week fitness program tailored to enhance a specific fitness component of their choice. With just one week remaining in their programs, students are observing significant improvements in their strength and are eager to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom setting.
Looking ahead, the next topic will focus on the musculoskeletal system, which aims to equip students with the foundational knowledge necessary for success in VCE Physical Education.
