Tickets for the College Production, Mary Poppins are on sale and with three shows sold out you better get in quick to ensure you don’t miss this truly magical show. Over 140 students, staff, parents and alumni have been working as a team to create this extravaganza.
Based on P.L. Travers’ beloved book series of the same name, Mary Poppins became an immediate hit when it premiered as a movie musical in 1964. In the musical, Bert, a jack-of-all-trades, invites us into the world of London, England in 1910 - and, specifically, into the dysfunctional home of the Banks family. Jane and Michael, the young Banks children, have sent yet another nanny packing, dismissing these children as hopelessly and irrevocably spoiled and misbehaved. With a father who works constantly and mother who is always distracted, Jane and Michael have suffered without strong caretaking forces in their lives. Then the magical Mary Poppins flies in on the wind, bringing with her a combination of whimsy, magic, and disciplined common sense to the children’s lives. Mary Poppins’ transformational influence does not stop with the children - eventually, she teaches the grown-ups, as well, to open up and realize that ‘anything can happen if you let it.’
There are evening performances at 7.00pm, August 24, 26, 27, 28 ,29 with a matinee show on Sunday August 25. Go to https://www.trybooking.com/CSOAP to purchase tickets.

It takes a village to put on a College Production and the wider school community have always happily assisted in a variety of ways. Please consider assisting in one of these areas: 1.The final Sewing Bee - Sunday August 18: 12-5pm. Work at School or take items home if that’s easier for you. Small tasks. You determine the time spent.
2. Helping to sell roses prior to the performances – contact either of the 2 coordinators if you can help out: denisedini@yahoo.com, or Kylie at kyliebramich75@gmail.com. Just half an hour of your time.
3. Assisting in the Canteen at interval details to be published on COMPASS. Two hours of your time!
Students of the Dance Academy had an outstanding industry day on Monday 29th July, completing three workshops with industry professionals. The day focused on theatrical dance, commencing with a jazz class with Brett Fisher. The class focused on strong technical jazz style and some challenging combinations.
The student’s then took a theatrical make-up session with Saber Tang, an alumni of Sandringham College. Saber did a demonstration of make-up from Cats! The Musical, and students then had the opportunity to replicate the look on themselves. It was a fun and challenging skill set to learn.
Finally, the day was rounded out with a ‘Cats’ musical workshop, held by Ashlee Hammerin. Ashlee worked on the show for several seasons in Korea. The students learned an extremely technical excerpt from the dance musical. Everyone soaked up the knowledge and had a wonderful time immersed in a full day of dance and related industry skills. Here’s what the students had to say….
“Brett's jazz class was engaging and challenging because we were given challenging choreography that pushed us to work harder. The class was entertaining and encouraged us to add style and creativity to our dancing, so we had to focus on both technique and performance. Brett encouraged us to bring our characters to life when dancing, and perform not just using our faces but using our whole body. The high-energy choreography kept the class exciting and motivated us to improve our skills”. – Grace Taylor, Year 9.
“The stage makeup session was very beneficial as a dancer, because it is a very useful skill to have for future shows we might be in. When we are required to do our makeup for shows it is very helpful for us to have had class on stage makeup”. – Ruby Poppleton, Year 8.
With Mary Poppins taking up a large part of term 3, music students have been busy singing, acting, playing and even helping paint and build the set and props for the production. It's an exciting time and we're looking forward to putting on an amazing show.
Concert band is just about to attend the South East Victorian Region (SEVR) Intermediate band festival on the 5th of September. The Compass event will be up shortly.

Our main focus is as always, the students and their education. Below are the anonymous results from a selection of the questions.
