College Principal
"The capacity to learn is a gift; the ability to learn is a skill; the willingness to learn is a choice.”Brian Herbert
I became a teacher because of my passion for learning, and I became a school leader to ensure that others had the best possible opportunities to learn. Now, I find myself at a crossroads, stepping into a new opportunity that will allow me to grow as a learner while supporting others in their learning journeys. As Herbert aptly states, "The willingness to learn is a choice," and I have chosen to embrace this opportunity for my benefit and for the benefit of our school.
Joining the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership presents an incredible chance to learn from some of the best educational thinkers in Victoria, Australia, and around the world. The prospect of acquiring and bringing back best practices to our College excites me deeply. Moreover, the potential to provide support and guidance to emerging leaders and to teach adults is central to this role. I hope to contribute in both metropolitan Melbourne and rural settings. If you would like to know more about the Academy, please follow the link: https://www.academy.vic.gov.au/. My role will be as principal in residence for 12 months and I will get to work with other principals from around the state who have also taken on this role.
I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Sandringham College community for the past seven years. Together, we have re-imagined our school through the tireless efforts of our staff, students, parents, and leaders. Our success is rooted in our core value of 'community,' which continues to be the foundation of our academic excellence and the development of young people of great character.
I would like to acknowledge the wonderful leadership team at the College, I know that moving forward, they will continue to steer the ship in the right direction. Principals: Vivienne McElwee, David Hall, Cody Gunn, Michelle Lynch, Michael McGowan, Amanda Jacobs & Mansha Rajasekhar; School Leaders: Laura Washington, Tim Clifton, Laura Suckling, Luke Devenish, Yunyun Liu, Ruth Dower, Kerry Haley and David Laursen.
I look forward to re-joining you all in 2025, renewed and ready to continue driving our school forward and upward, embodying the spirit of an old school motto. In my absence David Hall will be acting College Principal until a Department of Education recruitment process is run to find an acting principal for the next 11 months. Cody Gunn will step into the role of acting Campus Principal at Holloway Road as of the 2nd August.
