Our Year 7s-9s have stepped back in time to Ancient Rome, Medieval Europe and the Interwar Years respectively.
The Year 7 cohort have been conducting an in-depth study of Ancient Rome, looking at topics such as Romulus and Remus, daily life, geography of Ancient Rome, architecture, clothing, festivals and feasts. They will consolidate their learning by presenting the life of a chosen Ancient Roman individual and discuss their legacy.
This Term in Year 8 Humanities we are learning about the History of Medieval Europe. So far, we have covered historically significant topics such as the Feudal System, the fall of the Roman Empire, the role of the Medieval Church, the Viking Age and the Crusades. Students have practiced presenting their research on a timeline, demonstrating knowledge about historical significance and exercising their source analysis skills. The students will be assessed by a task which asks them to investigate one aspect of Medieval life and present this to their classmates.
In Term 3 Year 9 students have been studying World War I and World War II in Humanities. So far, students have studied long-term and short-term causes of WWI, key events of the war, motivations for people to enlist in the war, and the end of WWI, including the fallout from the Treaty of Versailles that eventually led to the outbreak of WWII. Students particularly enjoyed analysing propaganda posters of the time. By creating their own poster, they were able to demonstrate their understanding of views and values of the time in a fun and creative manner.
