Uniform News - Term 4

Term 4 Uniform Information

With Term 4 fast approaching and signalling the switch to the Summer uniform, along with the conclusion of the School uniform transition period at the end of this year, please find below general uniform updates and some reminders about our personal presentation standards.

It is the expectation that all students are to wear the Girton uniform in the correct manner with a sense of pride in their School, reflecting the high standards for which the School community strives.

The following are recent uniform updates:

  • Senior School students are now permitted to wear their correct (new) Girton sports uniform to and from school on the days when they are representing Girton in sport, in events such as Sandhurst or ICCES tournaments.
  • Junior School students may wear their PE uniform all day, including to and from school, on any day that they have a PE class or school Sporting events such as athletics and cross country.

  • Senior School students travelling to co-curricular activities before school, and travelling home from after school co-curricular activities, may wear their correct (new) Girton sports uniform during travel.
  • The Girton navy, long sleeve, crew neck, training top has been approved to be worn as an optional item for PE classes.
  • The Junior School fleece style track pants may now be worn from Prep to Year 6, where previously, the lighter-weight track pant was required from Year 3 onward.
  • Girls summer shorts and summer shirt will be available for Term 1 in 2020.

The following are general reminders about the school uniform:

  • Blue socks must be worn by both boys and girls who choose to wear winter uniform trousers, and all school shoes must be black, leather lace-ups.
  • Girls’ long hair must be tied back, off the face, with burgundy or navy ribbons only. Boys’ hair should be neat, no longer than the top of the collar, no pony tails or ‘knots’ and off the face.
  • From Year 6 upwards, school blazers are to be worn as part of the winter uniform to and from School and on all official occasions.
  • Girls may wear one small plain stud earring or sleeper in each earlobe.
  • No makeup or nail polish is permitted.
  • Girls summer dresses and winter skirts must be to the knee.

The following relates to the new School uniform for 2020:

  • Students do not need to upgrade their school jumper at the conclusion of the sunset period. The new woollen burgundy jumper is sufficiently similar to the older style jumper.
  • Blue pants and blue shorts in the older style (without the yellow embroidered Girton crest, which features on the new style) will also be acceptable next year (only), if in good condition.
  • Older style blazers can have the new striped trim fitted for the cost of $60 by Bob Stewart, our uniform supplier.
  • If you have extenuating circumstances that will make it difficult to adhere to the end of the uniform transition (sunset) period, which is the end of the 2019 school year, please email me at headmaster@girton.vic.edu.au.

Term 4

  • The Summer uniform, including sun hats, must be worn from the first day of Term 4.

The essence of the rules is that Girton Grammar School students should be excellently presented. Parents and Teachers play an important role in guiding students in the right attitudes towards uniform and personal presentation. Uniform Infringement notifications may be given to students via Astra if the uniform is not worn correctly. After three formal infringements, the student will be asked to meet with their Head of House or Head of Junior School. If parents receive uniform infringement notifications, we would be grateful for your support in directing action to rectify the uniform issue.

Thank you for your support in ensuring that our students are professionally presented and take pride in their school uniform.

Uniform Supplier

Our uniform supplier, Bob Stewart, has commenced selling the Girton uniform at their store located at 108 High Street, Bendigo - just a few doors up from the Girton pub.  Bob Stewart has taken delivery of all stock that was previously held by Bolton’s and this is now available for immediate sale.

Uniform items that were in short supply or not available at Bolton’s, will be ordered or manufactured as quickly as possible to ensure adequate in-store supply, and the Bob Stewart staff will be able to advise you of an ETA for any such items.

Bob Stewart will be establishing a ‘click and collect’ shopping service and this is expected to be available to Girton parents  in October/November. Additionally, we are greatly comforted by discussions with the Bob Stewart staff in regards to the summer dress, and they are working towards having new summer dress stock, free from the dye bleed issue, on the shelves in time for Term 4.
