St George's Superstars

Our talented students

Dav (Year 11) - Father-son hike for cancer

During the September school holidays, Dav and his father hiked the entire Cape to Cape Track — 130km from Cape Leeuwin to Cape Naturaliste.

For eight days they carried everything on their backs, cooked with a little Jetboil stove, and lived on freeze-dried meals, protein bars and the occasional bit of beef jerky. They faced strong winds, sore legs, blisters and even a few snakes along the way — but the views, laughs and moments together made it all worthwhile.

The father-son hike was in support of the Cancer Council, to raise funds for research and support services. Inspirational! Well done to you both and thank you for the photos.

Drummer Lawson was invited to play with the WAAPA percussion ensemble 'Defying Gravity' to do a series of concerts in September. The concerts were entitled 'Carnivale' and focused on Japanese and Latin American drumming. He rehearsed with the ensemble in the lead up to the concerts.

Lawson played on a number of instruments including using the Cajon and Marimba.

The performance was fun and Lawson received great feedback from Tim White (Head of Classical Music and Head of Classical Percussion at WAAPA) about his performance.

Diya (Year 11) - guest lecturer

Father Gift was quick to draw The Dragon's attention to a superstar Year 11 student who visited his Beliefs & Values Class: "Diya delivered a guest lecture on "Hindu deities" in our Year 9 World Religions class,'' Fr Gift explained. "She was superb. This was another illustration of how we celebrate diversity as an Anglican school''.  Well done, Diya,
