"Transitions are bittersweet

The first two weeks of Term Four are all about transition — farewelling the Class of 2025 and welcoming the newly appointed student leaders from the Class of 2026.

Transitions are bittersweet, marking both an ending and a new beginning. As we thank our outgoing leaders, we honour their wisdom, compassion, and resilience. Their contributions have shaped our school community with integrity and heart, leaving a legacy that will be felt for years to come. Thank You.

To our new leaders — congratulations. You have been chosen for your character, enthusiasm, and commitment to others. Leadership isn’t about having all the answers; it is about listening, learning, and lifting others up. It is about creating spaces where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued.

As John Quincy Adams said, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” This is the kind of leadership we celebrate at St George’s and look to see in our newly elected 2026 leaders.

We look forward to the fresh perspectives and energy you will bring as you step into your roles. You are joining a community built on collaboration, kindness, and shared purpose.

Year 9 House Prefect opportunities

I am pleased to announce the creation of a new leadership opportunity at St George’s. In the past week we have asked our Year 8 cohort to nominate themselves for the position of Year 9 House Prefect. Those students will be asked to submit a one page A4 typed vision statement. There will be two junior prefects per House and they will be announced in Chapel after a round of student and staff voting. These newly appointed leaders will take part in upcoming Transition Days for the 2026 Year 7 cohort. They will then take part in the Presentation Afternoon at the end of term.

During the 2026 academic year they will help with the running of the Junior Chapel and Assemblies.

This is an exciting opportunity for our younger students to gain leadership experience. I look forward to seeing the growth of this new role.
