Finishing well

Term Four began with great energy as we farewelled our Year 12 students through a series of meaningful events, including the House Breakfast, Academic Awards and Handover Assembly, Stations of the School, and the Valedictory Assembly. These ceremonies celebrated the dedication and achievements of the Class of 2025.

As our Year 12s concluded their journey, we encouraged all remaining students to finish the year well. This week’s chapel services reflected on Mark 7:31–37, where Jesus healed a deaf and mute man—prompting awe and the declaration, “He has done all things well!” Even at the crucifixion, a Roman soldier proclaimed, “Truly, this man was the Son of God.” Jesus’ example reminds us of the importance of both starting and finishing well.

To support a strong finish to the year, we are focusing on two key areas:

Self-Care

Prioritising rest, sleep, and mental wellbeing is essential. Jesus himself often withdrew to quiet places to rest with his disciples.

Caring for Others

Inspired by the African concept of Ubuntu—“I am because you are”—we emphasise the value of community and mutual support.

At St George’s, finishing well means more than achieving academic success. It also reflects our commitment to Good Standing: showing respect, being punctual and prepared, using appropriate language, wearing the uniform with pride, and completing assignments on time. A Term 4 report that reads, “He/She has done all things well,” would be a true reflection of diligence, character, and effort.

I also extend my gratitude and congratulations to 2026 Chapel Captain Cate, whose first official role was carried out brilliantly at Valedictory. Well done on your leadership role, Cate!
