Visit from Our Federal Member Basem Abdo (Australian Labor Party) to present New Flags!

Lily Osland (8J – School Vice-Captain)

Earlier this term, Basem Abdo, the representative for the Division of Calwell, came to the school and four SRC Representatives toured him around the grounds. He gifted us new flags, and we showed him the Indigenous paintings for each of the buildings that we had commissioned. During the visit, we spoke with him about the meaning behind each artwork and how they represent the diverse stories within our school community. He was impressed by the students’ leadership and creativity and thanked us for the effort we put into celebrating culture and inclusivity across the school.

Young Women Get Active Program

This term, Year 9 students were invited to participate in a Young Women Get Active Program, which ran Monday afterschool for 6 weeks. The program was facilitated by Nadia from Whittlesea Community Connections. Participants played cricket, volleyball and soccer. They had a visit from a cricket coach who ran a very competitive and exciting game of modified cricket where a few of our girls impressed by hitting sixes.

The program was great as it enabled Year 9 girls to participate with confidence.

Fatma: fun way for young women to engage in pe without judgement or pressure

Tash: I got free food out of this and I’m lowkey happy

Gia: it made me more confident in playing sports

Massive thanks to all those who showed up to watch and participate. Big thanks for Ms Dib for leading this program.
