Year 8 Boys/Mixed and Girls Volleyball Team

Last week, our Year 8 Boys/Mixed and Girls Volleyball teams headed to Diamond Valley Sports Centre to put their months of training into practice at the Region Finals. Our teams were the clear dominant forces at Division Finals in Term 1 and knew the competition would be a step up at this level.

Across the day, all matches were remarkably close, which clearly showed our teams belonged at the level. Our students should be immensely proud of their endeavour, dedication and sportpersonship throughout the season, as this showed on and off the court.

The Boys started the day with a win against Lalor North SC, 2 sets to 1. Their next opponent was the defending State Champions, Eltham HS, and in a very tight contest that went the distance, lost the match 2 sets to 0. In their last match, and with a chance to progress to the final on the line, they lost a narrow match against Ilim College, 2 sets to 1.

In the Girls section, they started strongly with a big win against Lalor SC, 2 sets to 1. Our girls also faced the might of Eltham HS, losing a close match 2 sets to 0. In their last match, also with a chance to progress to finals still on the line, they did what was needed to defeat Ilim College 2 sets to 1. Unfortunately, this wasn’t enough to progress to finals, with the Girls finishing 2nd in their pool.

Congratulations to our teams for representing the college with pride and living our ARCH values, and to Miss Casey and Mr Lui for their commitment and mentorship of our teams to reach this level.

Year 7 Girls Tennis

After months of training, the Year 7 Girls Tennis team competed at Region Finals last week. The girls were greeted with a beautiful day and sunshine at Hume Tennis Centre.

Drawn into a tough pool, the team fought hard but came away with a close loss to Thornbury HS. Their 2nd pool game saw the girls grow in confidence and soundly defeat Montmorency SC to keep their finals dream alive.

In their last pool game, it was a tight contest that went down to the wire; however, Coburg HS proved to strong in the end. The results in this pool were so close, a countback was held to determine the school to progress- in the end, our girls finished 2nd, only a set and a game behind the pool winners.

The team represented the college proudly and were commended by their opponents not only for their skill, but their humility and sportpersonship- again demonstrating the college values through their actions. The college community is enormously proud of your effort's girls- well done!

Shout to Mr C and Sarah B for their work in coaching and mentoring the team from the Division round in Term 1 through to region finals.

Year 7 Girls Volleyball State Finals

On Friday November 14th, our Year 7 Girls Volleyball team, supported by Mr Lui and Mr Saw, made the trek to Dandenong Stadium to take on 7 of the best teams from around the state at the SSV State Finals.

The girls faced three schools in the pool stage, accounting comfortably for Holy Trinity Lutheran Horsham in straight sets, before going down to McKinnon SC in a remarkably close contest. A place in the semi finals was within reach, however the team needed to defeat Alexandra SC to progress. In a match that went to three sets, the girls pulled through to win 2 sets to 1 to progress to the semis.

Finishing 2nd in their pool, the girls faced (arguably) the most successful sports school in the state, Maribyrnong College. The match was the tightest of the day, going the distance with Maribyrnong pulling ahead in the last set to win by 2 points. This is a huge achievement, given Maribyrnong College would go on to win the final in straight sets, the fact our girls gave them their closest match for the day is incredible and shows just how competitive our team was, and how hard they have worked to get to State Finals. They should all be very proud- the entire college community certainly is!
