YEAR 9 MARNONG ESTATE INCURSION

Our partnership with Marnong Estate continued this term when we were delighted to welcome Head Chef Marc Vadeboncoeur and Cher Tournant Chuu Soon Lim to Mickleham Secondary College. On Tuesday 3rd December, Chef Marc and Soon cooked for the remainder of our Year 9 students who completed Food Technology as an elective this semester, providing them with a rich and engaging culinary experience.

Chef Marc worked with students demonstrating professional cooking techniques and sharing his expert knowledge of food, ingredients, and flavours. He explained key cooking methods and the importance of technique in creating high-quality dishes. Students had the opportunity to observe the cooking process, ask questions, and taste the food that was prepared. Many students spoke enthusiastically about the experience and were impressed by the flavour and presentation of the dishes.

After the cooking and tasting, Chef Marc spoke with students about his career pathway in the hospitality industry and his role as Head Chef at La Vetta Restaurant. He shared valuable insights into working in professional kitchens, the skills and commitment required to succeed, and the wide range of career opportunities available within hospitality and food-related industries. Our students asked thoughtful and engaging questions, demonstrating genuine interest in future pathways.

We were incredibly impressed by how well our students engaged with this incursion and would like to extend our sincere thanks to Head Chef Marc Vadeboncoeur and Chef Tournant Chuu Soon Lim at Marnong Estate for their continued support.

We are grateful to have such strong community partnerships and look forward to the future learning opportunities these connections provide for our students.
