ENGLISH

Year 7

Students have completed a Persuasive Skills unit this term. Ending the term, they have worked in groups to create a script advertising a product of their choice. They have been utilising the podcast studio to record a persuasive advertisement for their product. They have been able to utilise their skills, knowledge and understanding from the persuasive unit in a practical way, utilising the equipment and facilities within the studio to produce their advertisement. Students have enjoyed working with the equipment and recognised the quality in the outcome of their advert.

Year 8

Students have finalised the persuasive unit for the term and began working through a short creative unit utilising Shaun Tan’s short stories from ‘Tales from the Inner city’. Students have been working through a range of short stories from the text, unpacking their own responses to the text, while analysing language and visual features. The abstract nature of Shaun Tan’s words and illustrations have peaked the interest of our students as they attempt to unpack the meaning behind the stories and illustrations.

Year 9

Students have completed the persuasive unit and moved into the personal response unit, preparing them for year 10 English. Students have been unpacking the context around the film ‘The Freedom Writers’ and completing tasks that build their understanding of the events that impacted the film. They have also watched the film and completed a range of activities associated with each section, focusing on characters, events and themes, as wells some personal response. Students have enjoyed engaging with the film and building their own responses.
