MATHEMATICS

Year 7

In term 4, students completed the units on statistics, location & transformations and algorithmic thinking.

Students completed a project for statistics where they had to conduct a survey of their classmates and preform mathematical arithmetic to interpret and be able to show their data as a visual display.

For locations and transformations, students learned to use coordinates on a 2D cartesian plane. They learnt how to accurately move from one coordinate to another and describe the translation that had taken place, including rotation of points and reflection across axis.

Algorithmic thinking helps students understand foundational coding and stem by step process and algorithms, they then replicated such coding into Microsoft excel and were able to create spreadsheets that would automatically give an output when an input was recorded

Year 8

In term 4, students completed the units on Congruence and algorithmic thinking and Pythagoras theorem.

Congruency of triangles and quadrilaterals allowed students to identify similarities of shapes using their angles and slide lengths, they also are proficient in classifying pairs of angles and the characteristics of them.
