NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL TEAM

As the 2025 academic year concludes, it prompts a meaningful period of reflection for the team here at Mickleham Secondary College. The promise of a new year with greater access to new learning spaces, new team members, new students, and the launch of new programs has been an invigorating and exciting aspect of the ongoing developmental work within our growing school and community.

Exam Week

Our examination week was expertly orchestrated by our outstanding Learning and Teaching team. Our Year 9 students were given the opportunity to thrive, experiencing the challenge of timed assessments while demonstrating their knowledge and application of skills.

Community Day

The end of 2025 brought our entire college community together for an expanded Community Day featuring food trucks, staff-versus-student games, exhibitions of exemplary student work, cultural performances, and a strong sense of connection. This event would not be possible without the incredible support of our dedicated staff, who worked with small groups in singing and dancing, as well as the continued support of MAB, who have helped shape this celebration within our Merrifield community since our opening.

Camp

After completing their exams, our Year 9 students embarked on their first school camp to Phillip Island an experience described as thoroughly enjoyable and one that helped foster adventure, curiosity, and independence within the cohort. Students immersed themselves in nature through hiking and surfing, visited the penguins, and connected with their teachers during evening activities such as games and movies. Many students reflected positively on their time away. A huge thank you to Ben Omizzolo and Karla Simiane for their meticulous planning and for making this experience possible.

Senior School

In 2026, our inaugural class of 2023 will move into the first of their senior years; a pivotal stage for growth, development, and achievement. From curriculum design and scholarship nominations to enhanced learning opportunities, special programs, and strengthened processes and policies, our Year 10 program has been carefully crafted to help Mickleham Secondary College students tailor their learning to their interests and pursue pathways they are genuinely excited to explore.

A strong emphasis has been placed on cultivating a culture of high performance within our Senior Sub-School. Students will engage in both academic and applied learning experiences as they begin making important decisions for their future selves. We are honoured and excited to walk alongside them as they aim high.

All of us here at Mickleham Secondary College wish our community a well-deserved, happy, and safe holiday period. We look forward to welcoming our students back in 2026.
