Year 11 Legal Studies

Throughout the course of this Semester in VCE Legal Studies, we have been studying sanctions for criminal offences, remedies to civil disputes and human rights. As part of Unit 2 they completed an oral presentation in which they researched the various dispute resolution bodies available in Victoria and the remedies available to ensure people whose rights have been breached get compensation or restored to the position they were in before the breach. This gave them the opportunity to apply their knowledge of remedies to recent cases and analyse how justice can be achieved within a civil case. This eventually connected to the final outcome of rights in which the students were able to learn about key human rights cases, such as the Mabo case which struck down ‘terra nullius’, and how they shaped the way human rights are protected in Australia.
